How to Get the Best Print Out of Your Digital Planners

How to Get the Best Print Out of Your Digital Planners

New to the world of PDF planners? Then you’re probably wondering how different they are from their journal counterpart.

Well, aside from the fact that PDF planners have a continuous lifespan, and provide its users with more diverse forms of usage; both planners can be gorgeous, practical, and used with ease.

The one caveat with digital planners is that you’ll need to print out your own copies if your style of planning favours good old pen and paper. But, we can help make this process a breeze. Whether you choose a DIY approach or decide to "shop your prints" this guide is here to give you all the tips and tricks on how to get high quality prints that you'll love

The Printer & The Settings

In our opinion, the best printer for digital planners is one that allows for borderless printing (otherwise known as full-bleed or edge-to-edge printing). This means that you won’t get a white border around your final product, and the printed design will take up the entirety of the page. To find out whether your printer has this feature you can look through its manual, or you can check in your printer settings by following these simple steps:

  1. Open PDF files in Adobe Reader
  2. Go to file, select “print”, then click “properties”
  3. Select the option “borderless printing”

Each printer is different, and their settings menu can be too, so keep this in mind when looking for the borderless printing option, as it may be found in a different location (e.g. advanced settings, properties, preferences).

If borderless printing isn’t available with your printer model, try following steps 1 & 2, then go to the “Page Setup” properties tab and select “Scale to 100%”.

As for the other settings you need to make your planner a sight for sore eyes, here’s a couple of thing you should keep in mind:

Printing in COLOUR is highly recommended
Our paper of choice: Laser 98-100 Bright White, 28 lb.
The Golden Rule: Keep the page dimensions consistent (8.5" x 11" paper for 8.5" x 11" planners)
